Take action

The Council decided to slash community centres on 21 February. It is vital we tell our councillors EXACTLY what we think of the cuts.

1. Email your councillors. Remember that you will have either three or four councillors and you should contact them all. There is a list of councillors here.

2. Visit your councillors’ surgery. This is a time set aside for councillors to meet residents and a very effective way of putting your point across. You can find this here.

3. Contact your MSP. The Members of the Scottish Parliament can put pressure on the Council. For example, the SNP Government have said they want more things for young people to do, and so should put pressure on the SNP councillors to stop cutting money from youth clubs in community centres. You can find your MSPs here. You have one constituency MSP and seven covering the Lothians area. Email them all!

4. Contact your MP. There are five MPs for Edinburgh: Alistair Darling, Mark Lazarowicz, Gavin Strang, Nigel Griffiths and John Barrett. You can find contact details and an online email facility here.

5. Prepare a deputation for the Education Committee meeting. If your group is going to be affected, you can ask for the right to speak to the Education Committee meeting and tell them how you will be affected by the proposed cuts. Please contact us for more information and advice – we can help you do this.
